Despite promising not to abuse the POFMA censorship during an election, Singapore’s ruling party PAP government spammed 5 POFMA orders in a single day yesterday.
Two Opposition Parties – People’s Voice and Singapore Democratic Party – and two Facebook users, and The Online Citizen website have been ordered to censor content quoting a 2019 government report of a new underground development for a 10 million population.
Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat made a U-turn and denied he ever supported a 10 million population in Singapore, contradicting a March 2019 article published by Straits Times.
Failure to comply will see immediate arrests and an imprisonment up to 10 years’ jail under POFMA regulation.
As all the POFMA victims are based in Singapore, they will have to comply. Only overseas websites and Facebook pages cannot be POFMA as the censorship is not recognised elsewhere.
