Singapore’s ruling party PAP yesterday announced their second choice backup candidate, a SAF officer to replace Ivan Lim, who was embattled with numerous scandals.
Xie Yao Quan, a SAF Lieutenant-Colonel, obediently sat beside Senior Minister Tharman in the press release yesterday. Both PAP candidates were not wearing a face mask when speaking to state media reporters, breaching COVID-19 regulations (The Ministry of Health has decided not to press charges against any PAP candidates).
The new PAP candidate has never shown his face to residents in Jurong GRC, and he was roped in only a day ago on June 28. He is unable to explain why he wants to join politics and be a MP, leaving the media questioning to Tharman to handle.
Senior Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam was very confident in winning the GRC, despite him screwing up the fiscal policies when he was Finance Minister. Singapore has the world’s highest income gap, and a widespread elderly poverty problem. Minister Tharman has earlier made baseless claims saying that anyone earning S$1,000 a month can afford to buy a HDB flat.
