In the extended circuit breaker (CB) measures to June 1st, foreign workers in Singapore will get S$750 a month for two months in April and May. The Singapore government however did not give Singaporeans anything aside from the S$600 financial assistance in April.
This is on top of free food and lodging for the foreign workers.
The unfairness has sparked anger across the country, with Singaporeans demanding fairness and equal treatment. Low income Singaporeans are now questioning how are they going to survive on S$600 for two months in the world’s most expensive city.
When questioned on his Facebook page, Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat ignored the requests for assistance for Singaporeans.
Food prices at government supermarkets NTUC have also inflated due to shortage in Malaysia. The Singapore government has to airfreight more expensive food and essential items from New Zealand and Thailand to keep up with domestic demand.
