Barely a day after Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan imposed a reduction in train frequency, Singaporeans reported overcrowding in public transport.
The PAP millionaire minister today responded saying that the Land Transport Authority (LTA) is to be blamed instead for mishandling public transport:
“Yesterday was the first day of our adjustments. It has caused some crowding in some stretches of NSEWL and CCL during the usual morning peak hours. LTA is studying the data and will refine the headways for implementation on Monday. “
Angry Singaporeans posted on SMRT Facebook page pictures of overcrowding, with many expressing concerns about getting fined S$300 for not observing social distancing laws. The government had earlier declared that all fines will be issued without warning.
Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan earlier reduced the train frequency to maximise profits for state-owned companies SMRT and SBS Transit.
