Despite being convicted of cheating Ang Mo Kio GRC residents in hundreds of thousands in overcharged works, the Ministry of National Development (MND) and the Housing Development Board (HDB) are not recovering the funds for the improper payments made by Ang Mo Kio GRC.
Since the completed police investigation and commencement of court’s hearing involving at least S$107,000 in corrupted funds last Wednesday (March 14), MND and HDB took no action to look into past town council transactions and payments, and remained silent.
The inaction by MND greatly contrasts the treatment received by Workers’ Party-held Aljunied Town Council, which were hounded for payment and even saw 3 WP MPs – Sylvia Lim, Low Thia Khiang and Pritam Singh – sued for S$33 million.
It is unknown why Ang Mo Kio GRC MPs – Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Darryl David, Minister Koh Poh Koon, Intan Azura Mokhtar and Ang Hin Kee – are not similarly sued to recover the improper payments made. The inaction raised fears of corruption in the Ministry, which many believed that it is afraid to investigate Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
The corrupted supplier of town council works also contracted work in 5 PAP Town Councils – Tanjong Pagar, Marine Parade, Chua Chu Kang, East Coast-Fengshan and Bishan-Toa Payoh. However, there is no investigation launched by the corruption bureau into these town councils.
