Effecting Feb 1 to Apr 30, the gas tariff for households will increase by 0.74 cent per kilowatt hour (kWh), from the current charge of 17.68 cents per kWh to 18.42 cents per kWh excluding GST. The move will translate to an estimated S$5 a month in gas bill based on the average household consumption statistics. However, the cost of food prices is estimated to jump 5% due to the increase in gas bill of hawker centres, restaurants and any FnB outlet.
The gas tariff increase coincides with a 6.3% increase in electricity tariffs – both approved by the Energy Market Authority (EMA).
The Chairman of EMA, Ng How Yue, has given his approval to increase gas tariff by 4.19%, in an announcement by state-owned company City Gas today (Jan 30). The husband of PAP MP Tin Pei Ling who saw 4 promotions in five years, took the EMA Chairman position only in Dec 2016, but have raised the prices of electricity and gas.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong controls the energy prices in Singapore by putting Ng How Yue, his former private principal secretary in the EMA. The dictator PM actively practices cronyism by appointing proxies in key appointments in Singapore, controlling market prices and the judiciary. President Halimah Yacob was his PAP MP a month prior to her election contest, and the current Attorney General Lucien Wong was his private lawyer.
