Speaking at a state media anniversary dinner, dictator Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong blamed Singaporeans for littering the country and dirtying the Singapore river. The dictator PM conveniently  left out the 45% presence of foreigners in present-day population and pinned all blame of littering on Singaporean citizens. Chiding Singaporeans to start “learning how not to litter”, Lee Hsien Loong said the Singapore river is now clean only thanks to his government’s “political will”:

“The river cleanup is never done. Singaporeans still must learn not to drop litter and trash on the ground, which washes into drains and the river, and has to be caught with booms along the way. It took much coordination, planning and a determination and political will to remove the pollution. Over 10 years, Singapore dredged up the polluted riverbed and removed pig farms and other pollutive industries.”

Lee Hsien Loong then started recounting a story from his father and mother, and credited his PAP government for cleaning the Singapore river:

“Back in the day, the water was black, notoriously smelly and toxic. A blind telephone operator who worked at my mother’s law firm always knew when to get off the bus because he could smell the river when the bus crossed it.”
