PAP MP Zaqy Mohamad gave a preview of the coming parliament enquiry by praising his party leader Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of being brave:
“The move to lift the Whip shows that PM Lee is not afraid to put the matter under the microscope.”
Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat also praise Lee Hsien Loong for allowing the Parliament to discuss the matter on Lee Kuan Yew’s will:
“Like PM, I hope this will be the chance for all of us to discuss things openly and thoroughly, dispel doubts, and strengthen confidence in our institutions and system of government.”
The Singapore ruling party-dominated Parliament has 83 PAP MPs and only 7 Opposition MPs.
State media Straits Times reported that “many other PAP MPs” will be like Desmond Choo who said he will consult PAP grassroots leaders on the matter:
“I would canvass views from grassroots leaders and residents so that they can reflect them in Parliament.”
A right-wing academic from ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute praise Lee Hsien Loong as “honourable”, while another praise Lee Hsien Loong for making Singaporeans “feel assured”.
