A 27-year-old man’s foot was stuck into the side of an escalator at basement one of Bugis Junction around 9.15pm last night (Oct 16).
It is understood that someone pressed the emergency stop button to stop the escalator to prevent a greater tragedy. According to witnesses, the man’s left foot was stuck in an awkward position and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) arrived at 9.40pm to free him using rescue tools within 10 minutes.
The man was sent to Singapore General Hospital with toes injuries, however the extent of the injuries is unknown. Bugis Junction management spoke to the media stating that they are investigating the incident and that their escalator contractors will conduct checks to ensure the escalators meet safety standards.
