State propaganda media, Straits Times, today (Oct 19) conducted a media witch-hunt of a 17-year-old convicted of bullying. Featuring the full name and a photo of the teenager’s face on its Facebook page, Straits Times gave a detailed account of the gross acts the bully committed.

This however contrasts with the coverage of news of two other rapists in the same week. No photo was given for a 26-year-old rapist and a 30-year-old rapist in the two separate reports.

A commentator at Straits Times Facebook page pointed out the different treatment the three received and lambasted the state media for ruining the life of the wayward 17-year-old girl:

The 17-year-old was sentenced to 21-months probation for multiple assualt offences over slapping and gross bullying tactics like burning her victims with cigarette butts.

Most commentators condemned the girl for her vicious acts and said the sentencing is too light. Some even advocated canning for the bully and sending the bully to Reformative Training Centres, also known as a girls’ home.
