Following embarrassing turnout for his funeral, the Singapore government is on a propaganda overdrive and even turning a K2 (5-year old) kindergarten homework to priase SR Nathan. The homework by an unnamed PAP kindergarten asked the child to “recall the values that you have learned about Mr Nathan’s stories and his contributions to Singapore”. On the second page, children were told to draw a picture and write “a few words of appreciation” to Mr Nathan.
Also in the state-controlled media Straits Times, the national paper ran repeated stories praising SR Nathan as a “hero” of the country. Inaccurate and misleading articles of the former President were splurged over headlines in the past week over his funeral. Below is a screenshot of the news ran in Straits Times today (Aug 27):
Despite the smog-thick propaganda imposed in all government organisations, Singaporeans remain unfazed at SR Nathan’s passing. SR Nathan’s role as President in Singapore has been damaging to the country as he never once commented as a single national policy, by himself, bringing his position in disrepute. Many are already questioning the relevance of a White Elephant President position when there is already a Prime Minister, and SR Nathan’s presidential terms validated these questionings.
