There have been 5 murder cases uncovered in the past two weeks, prompting the Deputy Police Commissioner to issue a statement reiterating that the police will make sure offenders “face the full brunt of the law”.
On July 9th, there were two murder cases. The first victim was Shawn Ignatius Rodrigues, 26, who was found dead outside a flat at Block 279 in Yishun. Shawn was murdered by his church friend, a 20-year-old National Serviceman who was the target of affection by the victim. The second murder victim is a 52 year old coffee shop helper, Goh Eng Thiam, who was stabbed to death by a 64 year old in a fight at Geylang Lorong 23.
On July 11th, murder victim Chua Meng Guan was stabbed to death outside a pub in Jalan Besar after challenging someone to a fight. The murderer is still not found. On July 19th, 55-year-old Arokiasamy Paul Rajoo was killed by a 47-year-old man at Taj Mahal Bollywood Music Lounge on the third level of 61, Boat Quay. The cause of death is unknown.
On July 20th, a 31-year-old lady from China, Cui Ya Jie, was murdered by her 48-year-old boyfriend, a charity volunteer, and her remains was hidden in Lim Chu Kang Lane 8.
All murder suspects face the mandatory death penalty if found guilty.
