Temasek Holdings-owned SP Services today (Jun 30) announced that electrical tariffs will increase by 9.2% – the largest ever increase in history. In a press release by SP Services, the government-linked monopoly said that the increase is due to the cost of natural gas being increased by 26% over 3 months ago.
The electrical tariff will increase from 17.68 cents per kilowatthour (kWh) to 19.27 cents per kWh from July 1 to Sep 30 this year. This is the second government-created inflation announced in 2016, after the 20% raise in carpark charges.
There is no mention of subsidies or assistance for the low income and poor households by the Singapore government.
