In a media interview with the state media, Law Minister K Shanmugam yesterday (May 4th) assisted Bukit Batok election candidate Murali Pillai by maliciously casting aspersions at his political opponent Dr Chee Soon Juan. The Law Minister was responding to Dr Chee’s criticism of the government’s lax immigration policies. Below is Dr Chee’s exact quote:

“That starts at the ICA, and this is I where think the lax immigration policy is. You let in hundreds and thousands – millions – you got to be asking yourself: There cannot be people there who are not properly vetted. And this is where I’m saying – the Government must pay more attention to this problem right now.”

The former Senior Counsel lawyer and now politician Law and Home Affairs Minister played the racist card using Muslims and angrily directed at Dr Chee saying:

“So what does Dr Chee suggest? That we say no to all foreign workers? Or we say no to all foreign workers who are Muslim? So what do we do? Send them all back? Who is going to do their jobs? And also, construction sector, you send them back, who suffers? Singaporeans will lose their jobs too.”

Minister K Shanmugam then insulted Dr Chee saying the latter is a political opportunist taking cheap shots:

“These are serious matters, security issues, they require careful consideration, proper thought, and I think we really all should just avoid making or taking cheap shots and political opportunism.”

PAP candidate Murali Pillai has no comment to his party leaders’ defamatory and disparaging remarks against his candidate. The PAP candidate is feigning ignorance and avoiding his opponent’s questionings by directing all responses through the Ministers.
