A rich foreign expat from Britain living in The Sail@Marina Bay was sentenced to only a S$2,500 fine for assault. On 14 Aug 2014, 35-year-old Kris Nathaniel John Francis Korosec was witnessed to be drunk and stopping a neighbour from boarding the lift when the latter did not have a cigarette lighter.
When the neighbour sought for help from the security guard, Kris Korosec followed up and punched him on the nose. The two then got into a scuffle as the security guard look on. The neighbour suffered minor injuries before pinning Kris Korosec down with another security guard.
Krish Korosec works as a Senior Executive Broker with Nausch, Hogan & Murray, Inc. and is based in Singapore.
Assistant deputy public prosecutor Prakash Otharam highlighted that the attack was unprovoked, but did not ask for a jail sentence. The sentencing has provoked more speculations that the rich and foreign are given preferential treatment over Singaporeans.
