Former SBS driver, Huang Ming Zhong, 37, was sentenced to 1 week jail for emergency braking leading to the death of a passenger. The bus service 109 driver was driving behind another SBS bus but failed to slow down when the latter had already slowed down and braked. This resulted in an emergency brake which threw 66-year-old passenger Tan Ya Tee backwards and landed with the back of her head hitting the floor.
The deceased then fell into a coma and was hospitalized for 4 days before she passed away. Tan Ya Tee had just finished her shift at the coffeeshop stall she was working at before she boarded the fateful bus.
The former SBS driver was sentenced to 1 week’s jail and his license was suspended for 3 years. The nationality of the driver is not reported.
