Speaking in Parliament today (Jan 29), Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat poured praises for his government and his predecessors saying that the Singapore government itself is an innovative government. Minister Heng Swee Keat cited CPF, HDB and the healthcare as some of the government’s “innovations”:
“Singaporeans are also a people with a habit of innovation…the Republic’s social policy innovations in housing, healthcare and the Central Provident Fund, among others, are studied around the world.
A more connected world can be a more dangerous world…but is also a world of new possibilities. Singapore has the necessary conditions where good ideas can be realised.”
The Minister also claimed that Singapore invented a “new technology” to handle water shortage. However, Minister Heng’s reference to “New Water”, a reverse-osmosis technology, is actually not new and not internationally-patented by the Singapore Public Utilities Board.
