Heading the National Population and Talent Division (NPTD), Senior Minister of State Josephine Teo said she wants to increase paternity leave to 2 weeks by “raising awareness”. Speaking at the PCF pre-school opening today (Jan 4), Josephine Teo claimed that only employers of large organisations and the civil service are implementing the 2 week paternity leave policy.
“Raising awareness among employers to implement the extra week of paternity leave will be one way to achieve this. The civil service and some large organisations have done so, but more can come on board. Reaching out to these organisations also ties in with the division’s other key priority for the year: To enhance workplace and community support for all parents. ”
Do you think “raising awareness” will get Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to fork out a week of labour costs each year?
Currently, Singaporeans work the longest hours in the world while it’s birth rate continues to decline. Singaporeans are putting of marriage and family planning as cost of living continue to climb while purchasing power weakens.
