5 women and 1 man were arrested for stealing from pedestrians along Orchard Road yesterday (Dec 23). Using CCTV footage, the police found the suspects after a shopper lodged a report when she lost her handphone and found her bag unzipped. The police later identified two women from a hotel in Geylang.

Following further investigations, three women and one man living in the same hotel were also arrested. All the suspects, aged between 24 and 33, were found to have several handphones, wallets and other items believed to be stolen. The police believe they may be linked to several theft cases which happened in November too.

The nationality of the suspects were not revealed, but chances are they are foreigners as local media reports will usually declare the identity only when the arrested are Singaporeans. It is unknown if the 6 thieves are involved with any overseas criminal syndicate.
