Nee Soon GRC PAP MP Louis Ng will quit his Member of Parliament work for a month including skipping Parliamentary sessions to “test” out different jobs, at one or two days each, for him to get first-hand experience.
According to his Facebook post, he will be a healthcare worker at Khoo Teck Puat, a taxi driver, a policeman, a coffee shop assistant, a wildlife rescue officer, a secondary school student, Town Council cleaner and even more in the one month he won’t be MP.
However PAP MP Louis Ng will continue to draw his S$16,000 monthly salary.
The newly-elected MP is trying to shape the ruling party’s elitist image by pretending to understand the lives of low income workers in Singapore. It is unlikely his attempt will reap any new understanding as he was brought up to a rich family and have never been through poverty.
