Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan and SMRT today (Oct 14) conducted a train service disruption exercise in order to better prepare for more train breakdowns in the future. The exercise, codenamed “Exercise Greyhound”, was organised by the Land Transport Authority, SMRT and SBS took place today at Buona Vista, Outram Park and Tiong Bahru stations.
In his blog post on Monday (Oct 12), Khaw Boon Wan wrote that:
“There must therefore be comprehensive contingency plans for breakdowns. More importantly, there must be actual and regular walk-throughs and “live rehearsals”. This will ensure smoother execution of such plans when disruptions happen.”
During the exercise, the LTA tested a newly installed beacon light at a bus stop, which was supposed to light up to show affected commuters that free bus services are available. However the beacon light was too small to be noticeable by commuters according to feedback.
