Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong yesterday (August 18) released photos of a new currency series featuring his father, former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew. The commemorative notes are meant for SG50 celebrations.
On the S$50 note, a photo feature Lee Kuan Yew shouting “Merdeka”. PM Lee Hsien Loong said that his father represented Singapore’s independence:
“It represented the resolve of the newly formed nation to defy all odds and it showed a can-do spirit that continues to drive us to excel and realise bigger dreams.”
The Prime Minister is currently banking on his father’s past achievements and the independence period 50 years ago to campaign for his coming General Election. There have been no mention of solutions to existing policy woes especially for public transport, where his Transport Minister resigned two weeks ago and no replacement could be found.
