In an interview with the media, 62 year old deputy speaker Charles Chong said that he is going to the Workers’ Party-held ward, Punggol-East SMC, to “give the voters a credible choice”:

“We must give voters a credible choice.”

PAP MP Charles Chong is also the only PAP MP in Parliament without a bachelor degree and has only a diploma from an Australian college.

Punggol-East SMC is currently held by WP MP Lee Li Lian who won the constituency in a by-election after PAP MP and former Speaker of Parliament Michael Palmer was exposed by the media to be having an affair with his PAP grassroot member.

According to the government-controlled media, the MP for another dissolved GRC, Moulmein-Kallang GRC, Edwin Tong will likely take over the Joo Chiat ward in Marine Parade GRC. PAP MP Edwin Tong is also under fire for taking up the defence lawyer role for disgraced City Harvest Church founder Kong Hee, who is currently still undergoing court trials for alleged misappropriation of church monies to fund his wife’s doomed singing career.
