36 foreigners and 1 Singaporean have been detained by the Johor authorities for by-passing the Johor Customs. They were charged for illegally entering and exiting Malaysia, after the Malaysian police caught them in an operation following the media report by Malaysian online media, the Star.

According to the Malaysians residing in the area, the routes taken by the group are frequently used by Malaysians working in Singapore, to avoid the jam at the Causeway bridge between Singapore and Malaysia. The routes involve small paths hidden by thick bushes, a construction site, low walls and even the abandoned Malaysia rail.
Both the Singapore and Malaysia Police are not aware of the short-cut prior to the news report.
