In his press interview over the recent SEA Games at Swissotel the Stamford, the Minister of Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong said that he will not consider organizing the upcoming Asian Games or Commonwealth Games for the time being.
Lawrence Wong said that Singapore has to take into consideration the problems encountered and its suitability of hosting bigger events. He also said that the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games require greater resources as compared to the SEA Games, and looking at present conditions and infrastructures, he does not believe Singapore is ready for the two mega sports events.
The SEA Games in Singapore saw several screw ups like copyrights infringement of exhibition piece, 30% under-attendance at Opening Ceremony, 30% over-attendance at Closing Ceremony and power outage.
Minister Lawrence Wong has no comment on the recent overcrowding attendance which sees hundreds of paid ticket holders denied entry into the stadium because the SEA Games Organising Committee gave out free complimentary tickets to avoid a 30% under-attendance seen at the Opening Ceremony.
