A 30 year old Banquet Manager at Resort World Sentosa has been jailed only 4 weeks for abusing his 34 year old Indonesian maid. The Indonesian maid, who has lost 20kg from 64kg to 44kg in the eight months of abuse from her employers, jumped from the third level of the HDB apartment at Edgefield Plains in Punggol in August 2012 to escape from the abuse.
Yulianti’s employers, Muhamad Al-Hafiz Nordin and Nuraini Hassan both 30, would only let her bath only once over 3 days and sleep on only a carpet at night. On one occasion, it was testified that Muhamad punched the maid until she felt giddy just because she didn’t know how to use a milk bottle steamer. In another incident, Nuraini scolded, punched, slapped and kicked Yulianti violently for eating four slices of bread. Yulianti was also slapped for using the “wrong” type of rag to wipe spilled water off the floor.
Yulianti started working for the family of four on Jan 10, 2012, and worked for eight months before her dramatic escape. She lost a total of 20kg to 44kg in her eight months stint with her employers from hell, and she never had a day off, in exchange for S$20 a day, and she earned S$450 a month. After suffering the abuses for eight months on August 7, 2012, Yulianti escaped by sliding down the ledge and wall partition from the balcony and boarded a taxi to her employment agency who later filed a police report.
Muhamad Al-Hadiz faced three charges of voluntarily causing hurt and wa sentenced to a 4 weeks jail today. His wife, Nuraini, a Customer Service Officer, has not been sentenced yet and is facing six charges of voluntarily causing hurt.
