At the SEA games netball final between Singapore and Malaysia on Sunday (Jun 7), Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) journalists have been lambasted for a lack of etiquette and decorum for jeering at the Malaysian team telling them to “balik kampong” (go home in Malay). One of the witnesses is the President of the Sportswriters Association of Malaysia, Ahmad Lhawari Isa, said that he was shocked at the behaviour of Singapore journalists:
“I am shocked by the behaviour of the Singaporean journalists at the press box. It created a negative impression on the professionalism of journalists as a whole.”
The behaviour of SPH journalists has been taking the spotlight in recent years especially on the Amos Yee case, where the reporters stood by and continued filming and taking photos while they witnessed a man slap the 16 year old.
SPH journalists are also infamous for being politically biased, earning them a 153rd spot in press freedom and accuracy.
