The 28 year old ex-China Singaporean became a instant citizen when she signed up for the Singapore Government’s Foreign Talent Sports (FST) Scheme in March 2007. In 2012, then-chairman of the Singapore Table Tennis Association MP Lee Bee Wah revealed that S$1 million has been spent on 8 foreigner-turned-Singaporean table tennis players. Today Singapore have more than 30 such new citizens on the FST scheme.

Even though these new citizens win medals for Singapore, most Singaporeans are not proud of their achievements and would refer them to their motherland China. Little or no integration effort has been made by these new citizens as well, and players like Feng Tian Wei are not able to speak English in media interviews.

Do you think the Foreign Sports Talent Scheme is a success?
