A train fault kick off the week today (Nov 6) at the city-bound direction of the North-South Line (NSL) during the peak hour morning around 7.50am. According to state media Straits Times, a defective train ran past the platforms twice, at Bishan and Ang Mo Kio stations, and all city-bound trains between Yio Chu Kang and Newton stopped for 5 minutes at each station.
A commuter at Ang Mo Kio station said that a train ran overshot the platform and had to reverse to pick up commuters at the crowded station. The same train also ran overshot at the next station in Bishan, and commuters of the train eventually were told to alight at Braddell station and wait for the next ride.
There was no public announcement on SMRT’s official Twitter or Facebook page.
As the calculation of rail reliability is not transparent, SMRT may be improving their KPI by choosing not to publicly report train breakdowns. The dishonest government-owned train operator has always under-reported delay time or not report a train disruption at all.
