It is official: Kong Hee is a conman. The S$24 million scam job to fund his wife’s doomed singing career has made international news, sending signals to governments around the world to start looking into the wealth of mega churches.
What little known about Kong Hee is his other brushes with the law before the scam artist got greedy in this case. Here are some facts about Kong Hee:
- Kong Hee owns a S$10 million Sentosa Cove penthouse and a 7 series BMW
He also used to own a Horizon Towers unit in River Valley with a private lift, two living rooms, four bedrooms and a compact kitchen before selling it in 2010. He then moved into The Suites at Central on Devonshire for S$2.6 million. His wife, Sun Ho, rented a $28,000/mth Hollywood Hills estate when she was in US for her doomed singing career.
- Kong Hee plagiarized from Christian books
In his book “Daily Devotionals”, it was found that Kong Hee plagiarize from another publication “The Leadership Bible” which was published 10 years ago. Kong Hee adopted the phrases without making accreditation and only do so after he was exposed in the media.
- Kong Hee: God said sorry to me
“For the first time in eight months, God, I heard Him cry. And he said ‘My son, Kong, thank you. Thank you for going through this. I need you to go through this alone, so that you and City Harvest Church can be the man and the ministry I call it to be. I’m so sorry, but you need to go through this by yourself, to bring a change to your generation.”
- Kong Hee: Give until your heart is broken!
This slide is from Kong Hee’s presentation in one of his sermons, telling church-goers how much they should “give to God”.
And no, not even the unemployed and those with no income are spared.
